The flash gave the shot an unrealistic tone compared to the muted sky.

Seems like a pretty wide lens, what camera?

resizing it using a bicubic engine like in Photoshop and letting is interpolate properly.

height and width you want and use the Bicubic smoother engine option. That should make a world of difference in resizing. You can apply more sharpening if you need after the resize.
