I searched the archives and found the Canon ZR10 was highly recommended. However, I see on the Amazon reviews that as these cameras got older they starting eating tapes and became useless.

I just need a camera that I can pick up cheap on ebay or where ever and use for in camera video at track events.

Thanks...

It was one of the first generation Mini DV camcorders. I've taken it to 1 event, and lent it to a few friends for other track events. It's held up fine.

I have another friend with a Canon (no idea which model #), and he's had it in for service. It just doesn't seem to like the shaking it has to endure on the track (he usually stays on course). I remember he told me he did a search and found other people had similar issues.

That's certainly not conclusive, but it's something....

it's minidv and NOT a DVD recording unit, as they skip and have issues at high g levels.

needless to say, its been ok if you want moderate quality. (its a Sony PC110 about 4 years, camcorder). With windows down, there is lots of wind noise. The saking around probably doesn't bode well for my camera in the long run. I've had it serviced once and it still runs fine.

btw, if you're interested in buying a speedmount, please let me know. I think I have one laying around.
