One of the things that bugged me about the 85 1.8 is the amount of CA. Unfortunately, it appears the 85L is no better in this regard, as you can see from the sample below. Not exactly a reason to kick it to the curb...but I was hoping it would be a little better in this department.
Bounce flash was used, and it was shot wide open at f1.2.

It's the different wavelengths of light being split and not quite coming back together to form "pure" white light again at the focal plane.

http://www.dcviews.com/tutors/tt55813.htm</a

even w/ analog, to get a perfect picture, you need to do a LOT of retouching.
w/ digital, it only makes the process a bit easier to get to the retouching phase.
time to go buy a Leica M6 and some baller zeiss glass. ;-)

in my garage fridge...
I thought I had used up all my TechPan reserves. Found 4 rolls of it, hehehe.
I know the pictures will be too foreign for some of you to recognize, but trust me.....in those little canisters and boxes lies way better quality images than w/ the pesky digital chip.

but i never used the winder. i also have a 50, 80, 120, and 180 lenses. the 120 is also a partial macro. i <3 that camera, it can do some really great things, but for 99.99% of what i do, my 1Ds Mark II is superior.
I do get some sensor bloom on chrome highlights when shooting cars in direct sun.
I'd just swap it out, as that IS CA.
When you see the green/magenta cast infront of and behind the focal plane, that's a tell tale sign of CA.
CA is all lens related and NOT sensor/film related.
swap that lens out my friend. Mine looks nothing like that.

It was bought used, so I have two choices...send it to Canon on my dime, or ebay.
Question for you...have you tried this with a flash on a chrome or silver subject? (the CA you see is around chrome-like silver paint on the headphones)
