i'm glad that i'm not wasting my money on equipment that i won't be able to use when i finally make the switch! ever since i started trolling on this forum, instead of wasting my time in OT, i've been tempted to drop more money into my camera! i guess things like this could be an addition...

i'm probably not going to get rid of my N80, since i'm taking a photography class next semester at USC. the class requires a film camera. but i'm trying to find the best price for a D70.

It's a little odd that you're asking about being able to use your old glass, and mentioning Canon in the same breath.

i picked up a canon point and shoot camera which i love compared to my old coolpix, so i want to check out what canon has to offer as well. i am partial to nikon cause of the lenses i already have.

I had an older Tamron 28-200 that wasn't at all happy on my brother's D70..

Sometimes older 3rd party lenses need to be rechipped to work on newer bodies. They'll mount of course but they can give you AF problems.

They use the latest body and lenses from Nikon, Canon, etc. but that means they only get the part of the protocol that's actually used. The protocols have more stuff embedded that's reserved for newer stuff net yet released. As a result, when soemthing like the D200 is released, a 3rd party lens already on sale might not work properly. So, you send it back to Sigma or whoever and they modify the IC in the lens so it works.
