... aside from improvement in flash, etc. this gives you an idea of how CF is coming out in my photos generally...

Definately use off-camera flash or available light (morning or evening). I can imagine a nice "shallow DoF with the rising sun reflected in the CF"-type shot.

Get a tripod, try to place the car in a bright environment without pin point lighting that will cause the glare you're seeing. And use the timer function so you don't introduce camera shake when you press the button. Experiment with the lighting until you get it right. In general you might find you'll get the best pictures with sidelighting.
