I'm working with a Nikon N80 right now and wanted to start taking some surfing pictures. Do you guys have any good suggestions for what I need to get some decent surfing pics? Any help is appreciated

400mm+ and teleconvertor would be ideal. If you don't have enough reach your shots won't be that great.

I was looking at the 300mm F4 Nikon lens, but somehow I feel that that lens won't be enough reach. Seeing as to how i'm a student, i'm guessing that I'm gonna be looking in the used market. do you have any suggestions for me to try out, if only to rent and demo a few??

if you're in socal, then a couple of places include Samy's and Pix.

They're require a 'hold' on your credit card for the cost of the lens as insurance (or you can have your home insurance be the payer).

I've rented many pieces of equipment that I don't need all the time like 2 1/4 lenses and lighting kits.

A quick scan of rental prices on Samy's camera reveals the following:

5mm f/1.4 AF-D $25.00
* 85mm f/1.8 AF 18.00
* 105mm f/2.8 micro 18.00
* 105mm f/2.0 DC AF-D 18.00
* 135mm f/2.0 DC AF 18.00
* 180mm f/2.8 ED-IF AF-D 18.00
* 200mm f/4.0 D Micro-Nikkor 22.00
* 300mm f/2.8 ED-IF AF-D 45.00
* 300mm f/2.8 ED-IF AFS 55.00
* 300mm f/4.0 ED-IF AF-D 28.00
* 400mm f/2.8 ED-IF D AF-1 100.00
* 600mm f/4.0 ED-IF D AF-S 150.00

Is it true that there's a camera flea market in the Rose Bowl every 1st Sunday of the month? I just herad about that not too long ago, and that sounds like a good place to get some second hand lenses. Have you heard about this?

Also, where do you go to take your surfing pics?

Thanks for your advice.
