and it's stuck somewhere in the middle of Pennsyltucky! After a 70 hour work week, I was looking foward to playing with it...but it'll have to wait. *sigh*

Sister's wedding is coming up in March, and I've always wanted to try this lens. But honestly, it's a focal length I don't use much, so I'll probably end up parting with it shortly after. You've got 4 months...start saving your pennies...this one could be yours! :)

I can't see that focal length as one I'd use much, either.

I did some basic research, and presented 3 options to my sister.
1. Pro, 2 people, 12 hours, full compliment of pictures in digital form, etc. $3500.
2. Semi-Pro, 1 person, 12 hours, full compliment of pictures in digital form, etc. ~$2000.
3. Aspiring Pro (someone looking to build a portfolio), 1 person, 12 hours, full compliment of digital pics, probably not much more. $1000-1500.
4. Friend of Raj (someone with little wedding experience, but willing to put the effort in to prepare months in advance), 1-2 person, digital pics, no prints, no albums, mild photoshopping of selected images. 16 hours over 2 days. $1000. (yes, I know, minimum wage laws start to kick in :-P).

She's aware of the costs, risks, etc. She's somewhere in China right now...probably doesn't give a flying f*ck about this right now. I'm not pushing it...it's her wedding. She has to decide what her priorities are, and act on them. Fortunately for her, the middle of March isn't peak season, so she should be able to put this off and still book a good photographer on relatively short notice.

I'll give it a fair shake though...and try to get used to the focal length. The downside is if I keep it, something else will have to go...and this little monster is the price of two L's in some cases.

If you've ever done any shooting of stage events, you know how aweful the lighting is. It's amazing that he was able to get the shutter high enough to freeze most of the action. Not many lenses would allow you to pull this off.

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/325523</a

I got back from work around 11, and found it waiting for me. But, I have to go into the office again today. I'll be back around 8 to play! (hopefully)

I'm going to have to come back to that when I recharge a few brain cells. One challenge I haven't figured out how to deal with is being color blind (red/green). One of these days I'll sort this PP stuff out.

Post processing colors sucks - especially skin tones for me. You pretty much have to trust the numbers you see in PS, not always how the pic looks. Have you seen this:
