UV? Skylight?

Also thinking about what I should do for the white balance. Is any correction or adjustment required?

require raising exposure compensation.

Should I stick to Hoya or is there something else I should consider?

Polarizer will screw up the sky. (creates gradients in the sky)

Largely all the UV filters and skylight filters will just protect the lens.

Just take the pictures, ramp up the exposure comp. up +1 or so as Chup suggested. Auto white balance should work fine.

Just remember that the wider your lens the more the gradient will be in the sky from the polarizer. There's a thread not too far down the page (posted by TRM, IIRC) with a link on tips for shooting snow. Also, make sure your polarizer is a circular (read - more expensive), not linear.

You always want your main subject properly exposed..

an all white scene will cause the meter to underexpose

imho, the easiest way to nail exposure when shooting in consistant conditions with varying subjects (like at a track event with white, black and silver cars)
