Used it tonight for some close up shots of some sweet BBS rims.... this was at F3.5.
Sharp at F2 or higher.

- better construction
- 8 aperature blades so you get a much nicer bokeh
- USM so no need to switch to MF if you wanted to fine tune the focus especially when shooting in one-shot focus
- slightly sharper than the 1.8 at F2 or higher at the centre but I can't really tell as it's so marginal
Is it worth the price? To me, yes, as I found a used one, paid about 2/3 of a new one :)

I love my 1.8, but it is a little slow.

In good light it's pretty good, in low light it will hunt a bit.
a lot of what i shoot is with the 50mm 1.4.
i don't even carry the 1.8 in my bag anynore.
