We just put in our third quart of oil in the first 12K miles with our 4.2 Q. It has had the regular Audi service. We live in a VERY mild climate-- 50s and 60s year-round. Most of our driving is in-town stop-and-go (which gives us only 12.8 mpg-- argh!).
Is this normal? Are any other 4.2s burning this much oil?
Thanks.

Worst mileage I have seen in 5k is about 16 mpg, most of mine is local / city driving.
in a 4.2 Q7 and an RS4. The bulk of miles have been highway though. Oil changes are cheap insurance compared with the acquisition cost of these cars.

No knocks, noises, etc. Have close to 6k, so far so good.
Well that worries me. I'm the only one burning oil. My Q7 was delivered with 500 miles on it because it had to be driven from another state. It was driven there by a young dealership employee. Did he perhaps run it hard and the rings didn't seat well???
