I'm desperate for the AMI retro fit as the 6 CD's in my changer are doing my head in.

I've found a picture of the Retro Fit from someone selling one on e-bay

My problem is for the Q7 this bit can't fit in the glovebox like other audis and TBH I'd prefer it in the Armrest anyway so can I assume there is an addtional part required that this AMI picture above fits in too

Looks like the main part fits inside a kind of holder that pops up and down...This part has to be unique for the Q7....is this what we are all waiting for and the main part in generic to other car models ?

They must have those parts to be fitting them into newly made vehicles. It's not clear to me that we're waiting on anything other than a decision to make the retrofit available. My service guy told me last week that there would be no retrofit after all. Then later the parts guy told him that there would be one, but we would have to wait until 4Q07 for it.

what months are their 4th quarter?

the Sep to Nov timeframe. A little bit too far away to wait considering that AMI can be ordered in new Q7s now and that the Dension 500 looks to have most (all?) of the same functionality

So, I've been through the ETKA and found all the part numbers I think are needed to fit the "cage" bit under the armrest...Then the AMI looks like it simply slides inside it.

Plus, I wonder if under the armrest it's prewired for a CD Player with the same connections as the AMI ? If it is then I wonder if it's plug and play ?

Part numbers as I see it from the ETKA
Top Cover - 4LO 864 515 A ( Labeled 18 )
Mounting - 4LO 864 918 C ( Labeled 15 )
Plus various screws pins etc.

I'm not 100% sure but the mounting looks to piviot on the Armrest mounting ( Label 25 and Label 1 )

So what do you guys think ?

........but how would we update our MMI with the AMI menus and functionality?

.....it's too long for me to want to wait. AMI was supposed to have been my Xmas present from my wife. I went giftless in the end. I'm not considering the Dension 500 since it's at least $500 without installation. AMI was reported to come in at $500 including installation by Audi techs. I don't fancy ripping apart the dash by myself on top of the $500 for Gateway 500. I'll live with my DLO FM iPod thingy until it's time to get the 4.2 diesel when it gets here.

it shouldn't be a problem.

This guy has done it on an A8 with no problems.

one be required for the car to recognize or be fully integrated with AMI. MMI updates are available for the A6 and A8, so it's not a stretch to assume that the Q7 will too
