Hi guys, I'm convinced you all love the Q7, otherwise you wouldn't be on this forum. I was also very found of it, so I ordered one in December 2005 (3.0 TDI Lava Grey, equipped with almost all options available) and got it on May 18th of this year. But on July 1st, it got totally destroyed in a terrible accident: it simply lost its right wheel, while driving at 130 km/h on a highway in France. Without any external cause. No safety systems have worked. Read my blog please, I'm really curious to have your comments on this.

http://accident-audi-q7.skynetblogs.be/</a

... It is impossible to make out anything uesful from the pictures of the piece you claim caused the wheel to come loose.

Of course, I'm not a specialist neither. They'll do the expertise next week and I'll post further information. I only know one thing: it is not normal at all that such a brand new car looses its wheel just like that. This is not what I paid for and not what you expect from an Audi Q7.

No doubt a frightening experience. With regard to reserving judgement, even if he crashed his beautiful new car by accident, it was still a rough ride. The fact that you aren't dead speaks well of the safety though.

It will be interesting to see if there's a recall.

thanks for posting. it looks like the casting broke causing all the other damage. Sure will be interesting to hear the result of the examination. Could this be our first recall?

The frame seems indeed to be solid. And the seat belts too. The only things that worked. We're alive, thank God. More about the explanation of the accident next week on my blog, after the expertise.

http://accident-audi-q7.skynetblogs.be/</a

I agree that it should not have happened I am sad that it happened to your family but happy as well since they made it out with reasonably minor injuries.

What I meant that I reserve judgement about is that because your wife had this experience on the freeway it does not necessarily mean that there is a serious design flaw in with the Audi Q7.
It could be that the particular part on your car was not manufactured correctrly (it is probably made by some sub contractor) and somehow slipped trough quality control.
It is also possible that the part was fine, and then damaged at some point during shipping of the car or testing or maybe a test drive at the dealer before you bought it. Possibly it could have been hit by some debris that got kicked up on the freeway.
I just don't think you should claim that it's a defect with the Q7 from the factory before you are sure that's what it is.

Keep us posted on what happens at the "expertise".

It seems that Audi could have handled this much better if nothing else just to make you and your family feel better until it is made certain what happened to your car. I hope your wife and daughter recovers well and that the situation is taken care of for you.

The technical inspection took place today. Go and see my blog (I apologize for the quality of the photos on the blog, they do not allow higher definition photos, I'll try to insert some better photos on this forum someway).

Please (re-)visit my blog and click on the 4 new photos in the right column. You'll understand better what happened. Yet the Audi guys want to send the parts to the laboratorium. Do they see less than what you can see on those photos?

http://accident-audi-q7.skynetblogs.be/</a
