For anyone who's ordered a Q7 in the US - are you paying straight MSRP? Is there any movement at all?

April 02-08-2006, 11:58 AM Some dealers may be a little antsy to make sure inventory flies off the lot and give a small discount at the start, but many dealers I've spoken to, have waiting lists and are taking special orders. That points to minimal or token discounting for now. That's normal when a new hot product comes out. If you are shopping discounts, you might want to look at vehicles that have been out for a while and sales are slowing. That could be Explorers, the Infiniti FX, the Saab suv (Chevy trailBlazer under the skin), and maybe some Rovers. I really have no interest in the other makes you listed, although it's clear they are becoming "bargain bin" due to high supply and low demand. In the case of the Q7, I just don't want to take a dealer's word for it that everyone who's ordered one so far has paid MSRP. I mean, what else would he say? (I guess he could say OVER MSRP!!?) It's interesting to hear that this model is already wait-listed at some dealers. The dealer I spoke with says he's sold about half his expected allotment, but if I want one, I can just order it now and I'm sure to get it around June, he says. I guess it's up to me to take the risk -- wait and see if a supply glut or other factors make this a slow seller that can be had for well below MSRP (see, e.g., the Mercedes R Class), or jump in and pay MSRP so I can be first on the block with a Q7.
