Actually, the torque rating of the 3L TDI V6 is 332 lbs/ft (450 nm), not 369 lbs/ft (500 nm). At least this is what I have seen on AutoBild, Auto, Motor Und Sport, European Audi websites and a few miscellaneous Audi websites.

Here is an excerpt from the official Audi press release:

"When the series is launched, Audi Q7 customers will have the choice of two powerful engines: the new 4.2-litre V8 with FSI petrol direct injection develops 257 kW (350 bhp) and achieves a maximum torque of 440 Newton-metres.

The 3.0 TDI six-cylinder engine features a latest-generation common rail injection system that uses piezo inline injectors, thus combining the high performance of 171 kW (233 bhp) and substantial torque of 500 Nm with exceptional refinement and excellent economy."

Obviously, one would would trust Audi over Autobuild.

If the current gas prices stay the same or go higher, then Audi better scramble to get a diesel version here to the U.S. or Q7 sales will suffer. There is already a steady decline in the purchase of large SUVs here in the U.S. - a trend that I'm sure is to continue.

The 3.6L V6 with FSI will produce 370 nm (273 lbs/ft of torque). So the n/a comments don't wash.

I believe that the Q7 will also be available with a 5.5L FSI V10 producing 560 hp and 590 nm (435 lbs/ft of torque). 560 nm (413 lbs/ft of torque) from the 5.5L FSI V10 won't be enough for the heavy Q7 or the new RS 6 (which will be 120-180 pounds lighter than the new S6).

I guess not in a while, since the new V8 4,2 TDi is more powerful than the current VAG V10 TDi used by VW.

That is, slightly more power, a bit less toque. But by all means, a *truckload* of torque, and a lot less weight. It is a very modern, state of the art TDi.

No, the new 4,2 TDi in A8 produces an insane amount of torque, 650 Nm, almost 480 lbs/ft.

The current 3.0 TDi in A6 and A8 puts out 450 Nm (332 lbs/ft), more than the late S8. The 3.0 TDi in Q7 will boost this to 500 Nm (369 lbs/ft).

I have driven the A6 and A8 with the 3.0 V6 TDi, and have to admit it is a blast. There is so much power available at low revs that even a V8 petrol fan like myself is blown away.

A nice added value to a TDi is that you can easily boost power and torque by reprogramming the ECU, so even max power in a 3.0 V6 TDi comes very close to the 4,2 V8 petrol. It will outperform the V8 petrol in any normal-day situation. Only flip side is added weight, and a little more noise. You don't notice in a car like this anyway.

But I was talking about the 4.2L FSI V8 (fuel stratified injected, which is normally aspirated and petroleum powered), which produces 414/420 SAE/DIN hp and 430 nm (317 lbs/ft of torque) in the B7 RS 4, where the 4.2L FSI V8 is high revving with an 8,250 RPM redline. In all other models (including the B8 S4, S5 and QS5 and R9, where the 4.2L FSI V8 will be high revving with an 8,500 RPM redline), the 4.2L FSI V8 will produce 440 nm (325 lbs/ft of torque) and 345/350 SAE/DIN hp (A6/AllRoad and Q7) or 370/375 SAE/DIN hp (A8/A8L, B8 S4, S5 and QS5 and R9). In the A6/AllRoad, Q7 and A8/A8L, the 4.2L FSI V8 will be lower revving with a 7,200 or 7,300 RPM redline. FWIW, the QS5 will be the high performance version of the Q5 SUV on the B8 platform.
