I'm looking at a couple pre-owned A4 Avants, one with the 2.0 turbo and the other with 3.2 V6...both are roughly the same price.

Any recommendations or feedback on the differences and pros/cons of either engine? What would you choose, all things considered?

The 3.2 ownwers argue mainly for the smoothness and power of their engine. It makes decent power and delivers it without the jolt of the 2.0T. Some also point out that the 2.0T sounds like a sewing machine compared to the 3.2.

The 2.0T crowd like that the turbo gets much better mileage than the 3.2 and has enough power to be fun for most drivers. It's also lighter and generally less expensive.

A third group, the chipped 2.0T owners (which includes me), have some of the advantages of both engines. A chipped 2.0T can have a better power to weight ratio than a 3.2, deliver good mileage, and still be relatively inexpensive even after rolling in the cost of the reflashed ECU. I assume the same would apply to a chipped 2.0T A4.

Did you mean the new A4 ? Its got the all new 2,0 TFSI engine, with higher torque than 3,2 V6 and just as quiet and smooth as the 3,2 V6.

Its just as fast as the 3,2 but the MPG is much higher.

If you mean the old 2,0T (before 2008)i would go for the 3,2.

The only thing they have i common is the name.
The new engine is only availabel in A4-B8, A5 and Q5.
All other 4 cyl. Audis still got the old 2,0TFSI.

The new 2,0TFSI engine has chaindriven cam shafts, balance shafts and valvelift system. The rest of the engine is also different.
