There's something about the sidedraft carbs 'sound' that most fuel injections just don't do..

That said, EFI would be way easier to mess with.
On the other hand, there are EFI throttle bodies that bolt up in place of Weber carb bodies.

...maybe "sputter-sputter-BOOM!" :P

EFI is the way to go, but there's something about the simplicity of a fuel pump + carbs (that's it!) that draws me to the idea of it...

no ISV, no bad injectors, no 'million vacuum lines', no nothing...

...just a trunk full of jets to adjust for the weather or day-of-week ;)

+ side drafts are just plain cool :D

which would be easy enough to make work

but I think 2.5 of these would be cooler :)

Surprisingly enough, Webers have been 'split'.

On Austin Minis, the center to center distance of the two intake ports are different than the Weber carb center to center to center distance.

You can get manifolds for a mini that adapt a single weber to the two intake ports. In this case, each intake runner of the manifold makes an 'S' shape.

That's not good enough for the hardcore Mini racers. They want a straight runner.

So.. Manifolds for those folks mount up 1.5 Webers. The first Carb is normal (not cut), but only uses one of the carb's throats. The second carb has one of the throats cut off (and obviously, the required holes filled). Of course, it still keeps the float bowl. This cutting up of the carb is required, as both carbs can't be in the same place at the same time, and still allow 'straight' intake runners.

On the I5, you could in theory design a manifold for the webers, and just not use one of the Weber's throats. No need to actually cut the carb, unless the physical space is required.

Split Weber Carbs

Was considering them for my 7A, but the cost of doing so made me dizzy, hence the lower buck 10vt.

...couple of guys who fit motorcycle carbs to HO motors, fab manifolds, etc. very informative, and something I'll keep in mind for the future...

http://www.retrocarsmag.co.uk
