View Full Version : So the idea of something new came to me from a friend...

I eventually need to rebuild my 7A engine and think it would be fun to pork her up a little bit in the mean time, you know since it is all apart why not. Then another idea came to me from a friend, put a super charger on it too and run around 10psi. Not much but not too low. I figure to run this psi it would be wise to get newer stronger pistons/rods/rings/etc but nothing rediculous.

I was wondering if it would run better on a set of bigger cams for the 7A engine or a set of cams from a stock 3B or AAN, just kinda pondering that?

Now you obviously need to make electrical changes to get more fuel to mix with the more air and something to control the mix, possibly some piggy back ECU controler.

I think that you could modify the intake manifold something like the 3B setup, i think, so that the supercharger sits ontop of the Valve cover and then turns and feeds the Intake manifold around the battery area.

For some strange reason i think this would work and be kinda cool and different. Be neat to have more power without the turbo laggg. Now for the problem of sourcing a supercharger that will work in these conditions.

What do you guys think, am i smoking something and am halucinating that this will fit or could this possibly work?

Plus i am bored so decided to post somthing at 2 in the morning.

Steve A. and I were talking about this for quite a while one night. And it was discussed in one of the forums here but I can't find it.

You'd have to cut a big ol' hole out of the hood to make a S/C fit on top of the VC.

Anything is possible... and S/C 7A would be VERY cool.

I'd like to see it done...so DO IT! ;)

I am talking about it going right on top of the VC, no 7A IM in the way... I figured i would have plenty of room that way.

Hmmm... If not i do have a CF B4 hood that could be cut and have more CF molded into it with a little hump or what not...HMmmmm

This picture is from a Grand Rapids local (Peter Tong) who created a RotorCharged twin screw kit for his MK1 rabbit. It looks like this kit could be configured to bolt up to an MC block and run about the same set-up. The i5 is basically set-up like a VW 4cyl.

The more I think about this set-up the more I want to ditch the turbo and create a S/C 10v MC.

hmmm

they are pretty tiny. i kno cuz i work on alot of bmw's and thats the choice type S/C to use when they go forced induction. how else are you gonna fit a s/c in a 5.7l v12 e31?

Otherwise, the turbomachinery type would be easier to integrate. I'd ditch the Hitachi management either way though, to free up room. Other big challange is how to drive the pulley on either type.
