When I first start my car it is fine. If I pull it out of the garage and let it sit for about a half hour or so and then restart it I get a small puff of blue smoke from the left tailpipe. I don't get smoke when the car is hot from being run on a restart. I'm not seeing any noticeable oil consumption between oil changes except for about half a litre or so.

Is this normal, or am I looking at a potential problem? I've video taped this to show my Audi rep. The car is just coming out of warranty in about 1500 miles.

Also after a short run out the garage and then start up an hour or so later. Investigated it and found that a bit of condensation plus a minute amount unburned petrol settles in the CAT. The Second start a little later burns this off and thats the blue smoke. My 4.2 in a 2001 C5 only had 65000 miles ( 110 000 kms in my speak ) when I bought it in Jan 2006. Compression was fine, no oil use at all, in fact the oil is still a gorgeous honey colour which signals no blow back. Hope you feel better.

If all are the typical dry slightly sooty look, chalk it up as normal. If any are oil fouled, then there is some issue and now you know which cylinder. Easy to check this, hard and $$ to fix. Thus, the waarnty.
