I not much a car person but my 2000 4.2 85k miles will not go in reverse. (It will but very slowly).
My garage is telling me a need a rebuild of the trani and I can expect to pay 8 to 10k. Can this be so?
I baby the car and have only had it on the track one day.

manuals were available outside the US for the 4.2 A6 A8 and S8. So with the limited information available I was making the best suggested fix for the described problem...NOT automatically assuming that since it was a 2000 that it HAD to be a tip

The reverse clutch seal is ripped.(left on the pic.) You will need a rebuild. $2500-$4000 in the US.

Could be UK (or perhaps old school Canadian), but "rebuild of the trani and I can expect to pay 8 to 10k" sounds like North American slang, and North American prices for a trani rebuild. Which in itself, is a term generally used with automatics.
