View Full Version : Survey: How many miles on your 4.2? Any problems? chaplin 12-09-2004, 12:46 PM Curious about the reliability and longevity of the engine. Kimchee 12-09-2004, 02:43 PM Kgnast-Nemo4.2 12-10-2004, 07:41 AM had timing belt replaced, tie rod ends, control arms, bushings, brakes done 4 times, had the tranny replaced, LOL.... Everything but the tranny was not because stuff was actually bad - more so because I work at the dealership and I can get work done on my car at just about any time - I love the guys down at our service dept. They always take care of me. The tranny **** itself completely. Had the car back in 4 days, new tranny in place. The 2200 comes from the probably 90% of track miles that are spent at full throttle. Zero motor problems. Performance seems unchanged since new. Oil consumption is unmeasureably low between the 5k change intervals. CaseyH 12-14-2004, 10:04 AM Fla-4.2 12-14-2004, 12:41 PM I've followed the recommended practices I've read about in these forums: T-belt, water pump, idler pulley, thermostat @ 60K. In the next 3K I'll do the Tiptronic filter service, ECS tierod ends, and serpentine belt. GDJT Allroad^2 12-15-2004, 08:24 AM solid so far. Flushed transmission, timing belt was done before I got it. Had to replace some valve cover gaskets and rear cam seals because of oil leaks. At 5,600 miles the motor is still leaking oil from the same spot. I think I have a lemon on my hands. I think this is the last Audi I will ever buy. One reason is that parts are always on backorder. I had to wait a month to get my car back from service. I used to own a 2003 a-4 cab and traded it in because of the lack of power and the terrible lag it had with the CVT transmission. I think I am going back to a BMW. Mike4.2CBW 01-03-2005, 08:27 AM service cntr regular 01-09-2005, 09:04 PM I got the car back from service the same day I took it in at 5,600 miles. It was confirmed that it was leaking from the same spot. I was told that I had a defective motor. I called audi customer relations and discussed my concerns about the car. Audi is standing behind their product and is going to replace my car! They did this out of good will and they are trying to keep me as a customer. I am impressed. Well, I will be impressed once it all takes place. CT_A6_guy 02-17-2005, 11:01 AM Fixed under CPO warrenty - 50 bucks! Also replaced the MAF too. Car runs great now! 2000 A6 4.2 SFORDHAM 03-22-2005, 07:32 AM No major repairs to date. at least 8 track type events each year and 1 Sunday Morning Drive each month... Steve Hues 04-13-2005, 08:49 PM i bought my '00 CPO'd with 47K and now have about 49K. i had the dealer check the maint. history and they only problems with mine were vacuum hose and a window regulator had to be replaced. I think thats damn reliable. service cntr regular 05-22-2005, 10:08 PM I now have the newest s-4 model. Audi delivered on their promise. I got the car in April. It is quite refreshing to have a company stand behind their product. BUY WITH CONFIDENCE! Love the new body styling. It is much better than the old styling. The quad exhaust makes the car sound a little better. Additionally, I really like the new navigation system. I guess my bad luck was really good luck in disguise. -OvO- 06-17-2005, 04:00 PM oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, besides the engine - rear main seal, rear diff seals, cv joint boots |
