Basically after reading the article on the altima, I wanted to know if the gizmo could feed a larger engine (4.2 - duh). You'd need about $600 worth of batteries but he's got one on his 5.7l IROC and they are claiming like 85% increase in power. you get 3-5 10 second bursts and then it takes 20 minutes to recharge the batteries.

They are Aerospace grade batteries, so the service life is light years beyond plain old lead acid and they weigh exactly half as much.

That's not too bad -- you get 30-50 seconds of 85% increase followed by 20 minutes of "rest".

Sounds like what it needs is some sort of controller so you could dial in boost (40% say) and get a longer boost phase (60-100 seconds say) before the rest period. Maybe link the controller to the throttle so it could trade off time for boost, with more throttle giving more boost but for less time. You could have a gauge to show the "boost-time remaining" in the batteries.........

How many amps does this boost fan draw, and at what voltage? Any chance one could hang a bigger alternator and keep a moderate level of boost going long-term? (But then, would this differ enough from a straight belt-driven blower to be worth the trouble?)
