View Full Version : I'm really considering developing a supercharger for the 4.2

My twin turbo buddy in Brazil (Luiz) is sending me an ECU chip that he used in his car for three years, should have it in a week or so.....that should make me happy for a while.

But I've been dreaming about a supercharger for sometime. I think I have an avenue for a chip, or could find somebody to do it......

Here's a post of mine from the A8 forum a few weeks ago....wouldn't it be nice???

Okay, so I'm watching tuner TV last night on Speedvision and they end up bolting a centrifugal supercharger on a 350Z, it goes from 250 to 350 HP and something like 310 lb-ft of torque.

The company that supplied the kit is ProCharger, they have kits, but also have a Universal kit which includes the supercharger, mounting bracket, intercooler (optional) and I guess a few other things. Here's what their web site states:

The Universal Sport Compact Kit contains the C-1 ProCharger, 2 core compact sheet metal intercooler, universal tubing kit, right-hand or left-hand universal supercharger bracket, a Bosch surge/bypass system, and an air filter. Optional items include ProPump fuel pump assembly, FMU assembly, and a 3 core compact sheet metal intercooler.

So if I pull the heads, put in a spacer, reduce the compression, bolt one of these things on, then remap the fuel/etc....I'll have a supercar!

Pricing for the C1/C2 kit:

So we're talking less than 3K for the kit, plus have to do all the fuel and ignition stuff, plus make a bracket to mount to the engine.

Here's the specs on the C1/C2:

Here's the C2 in the Infiniti FX35:

Here's a C1 kit for the Integra:

Heck, if we could get another 125 HP for 4K....I would do it!

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled program.....

and messing with the heads. I think that without adjustable cam pulleys the cam timing would be off if you go the spacer way. Perhaps custom pistons may be the better way to reduce c/r. Certainly doable, go for it!

I also got this really weird memory that Oettinger or someone made supercharger kits for D2 A8 few years ago. Never saved the web page so I couldn't confirm it anymore...

I had a look into Supercharger/Turbo conversions a while back with Sven on Tyresmoke, but the thing that worried me was the compression ratio. From my calculations I felt that you wouldnt be able to run much of a psi increase safely. I appreciate that Luiz has managed it and there are a couple of others across the world so it would be interesting to know if they dealt with the compression issue at all. The S8 runs even higher compression than the A8, which I guess is one of the reasons the squeeze out the extra power.

Never say never though :)
