I recently changed out the valve cover gaskets and sparkplugs on my 01 allroad after noticing an oil leak around the valve covers. The job seemed to go fine but after putting everything back together and starting her up, I could hear a sputtering exhaust noise from the right exhaust manifold area. The noise gets louder as I accelerate or rev the engine but I haven't noticed any loss in power. The noise remains even after the engine warms up.
The only thing I even touched in that area was the right combination valve for the secondary air injection system. I was having trouble getting the valve cover off so I unbolted the pipe connecting the combination valve to the back of the engine. Seeing as this pipe feeds into the exhaust, I am thinking that this is where the exhaust sound may be coming from. Bentley's doesn't have much info or any pictures showing how the combination valve pipe bolts in. I didn't notice a gasket when I removed the combination valve and was wondering if there should be a gasket between the pipe and engine (maybe I dropped it without knowing it as I removed the bolts).
Any ideas? Thanks!
