View Full Version : 143k miles... should I be worried?

I could get a killer deal on a 2001 S4 with 143k miles for only $11k. The price is low, too bad the mileage is high. The car however is meticulously maintained (sounds like it, looks like it, drives like it, and has all service records). In this day and age where many engines are seeing over 200k I'm hoping to get at least another 30k miles out of this car. Could I expect that to be possible without crazy money? My Corrado (aside from the supercharger) lasted over 180k miles even with my lead foot before I swapped the motor out simply for more power.

Now with the 2.7t, I know about the typical issues, like turbos, various tubes tearing, diverter valves, etc. I still don't know whether the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump have been done on this car, but lets assume until the seller gets back to me that this was all done (I won't buy the car if it hadn't since I don't have the time nor the cash at the moment). Can this motor last another 30k-40k without having to tear it open? The car is totally stock, there are no leaks, no loss of fluids, no odd sounds, still has power, drives smooth, etc.

Since I'll be asked anyway about the turbos in this thread anyway, I may as well say this. They are original turbos. I checked for noise, whines, etc., they don't make ANY noise. Like I said, this guy maintained the car better than most. He drives the car 100 highway miles to work each day and says thats where all the miles have accumulated.

So BESIDES the turbos, which I know will eventually go, are there any mechanical concerns with this V6 that might make me reconsider the purchase?

THANKS

If you wanna drive the s4 like a civic it'll live but then why wouldn't you just get a civic..if you wanna drive it like an s4 it probably wont last (turbo's that is)...I think i rember hearing 2.7t turbo life is 70,000<---i think
Oh and mine just died at 53,000....it's not a cheap job

I blew a turbo at 40,000k, one month out of warranty (4 years).
Audi covered nothing, and I had to replace both turbos, total bill 6grand.

1993 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo with over 150K miles on stock turbos and he's pumping over 500hp on his car and runs is hard daily and no problems. I hope your not right about stock turbos on 2.7T lasting only 70K miles.

would you be able to tell me where you buy a salvaged or repoed s4, or do you just have to find one from and private seller? thanks
