I am considering 17' rims for the spring. looking at the following sizes

235/45/17 - Tire Rack recommended size.
245/45/17 - this size I like best
255/40/17 - maybe too wide?
255/45/17 - maybe too wide and too high?

I was considering Continental tires, but I talked to a guy who owns a tires shop, and he said that he has pulled a lot of conti's off of cars because they get out of round after 5-10k miles and cause vibration. Anybody have Continental tires vibrate them?

...and so far they've kept thier round ~3-4k miles. They do get flat spots overnight, but go back to normal after 2-3 miles on the road. The wet and dry traction are great...I have yet to drive em in the snow.

I have blizzaks on 16 in rims for winter tires one the TT.

I am still debating on ContiExtremeContacts for year round tires on the A6 or ContiSportContacts on 17in wheels for summer tires and blizzaks on the OEM 16in wheels for winter tires. All seasons would be so much cheaper,, but dedicated snow tires rock!

What size wheel/tire combo do you have on your car?

I currently have WinterSport M3s on the 16" wheels stock for the A6...can't wait to try em out; I've never had snow tires before. :D
