So last winter, I had a fairly significant oil leak shortly after starting the car after a particularly cold night (-32 C). The oil leak stopped when the weather warmed up a bit, but still was leaking occasionally (seaping out the valve cover gaskets and dripping onto the exhaust manifolds).
The leaks have stopped completely since the weather warmed up this past spring.
After some searches on AW, I found the threads about a bad suction pump or a bad one way check valve in the breather system causing the crank case to pressurize and blow oil out gaskets and seals. I changed the suction pump a couple of months ago. The old one seemed just fine as far as I could tell......not blocked at all.
Now to the point of my post. Today, I finally got around to changing the green one way check valve. THE BLOODY THING WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY BLOCKED!!! I could barely blow air through it at all!!! You can very easily blow air through the new one that I bought. This would obviously cause my crankcase to pressurize.....ESPECIALLY in very cold temperatures.
My car has 107000 km on it. I HIGHLY recommend that anyone who hasn't changed the suction pump or the green one way check valve to do so immediately......especially if you've been having problems with oil leaks.
Hope this helps someone keep their 2.8 L engine leak free! :)
Here's a link to a nice summary post on the suction pump/breather problem;

http://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/486032.phtml</a
