Both mounts have dried purple goo all over the bottom of them :( APR snub looks ok though. . . I see a write up for the 1.8t. Where's the 12v or 30v write up? And yes I STFA.

I used an engine crane to lift the motor. Then unbolted the mounts with the brackets. If you have an early 30v, you might need to remove the starter to do the passenger side mount. Its a bit of arm twisting, but they go in there. Have an odd array of swivels, extensions handy, it helps to get at the allen bolts on the engine block.

I just bent a 13mm closed end wrench till it could fit up there well enough to break the nut free. Thanks for the help :)

Also changed tranny mounts to allroad mounts and put in new tranny fluid. Car feels much smoother and "tighter" now when driving.

I was watching American Hot Rod (Coddington) on Discovery, and this guy had to bend a wrench to fix something. He brings it back to Sears, and says, " I was using it, and it got bent." and they gave him a new one!

I have almost 80K on my Y2K 2.8 and don't know if I need to look at this or not.

Had the timing belt done appx 22K miles ago and replaced the snub mount but not the others

The has a fair amount of vibrations at idle, noises in the interior. Worth replacing, it saves cracking in the header pipes/exhaust system and makes the car feel new again.

wrenches that size I might as well keep it for tight spaces. Plus bending it back will only weaken it further.

I bent it by wrapping it in a rag and hitting it with a sledgehammer. A few shots did the trick nicely.

anywhere near as much. Of course with my car being S/C'ed it probably terminated the mounts a little quicker. Plus I have sh!tty roads here in Chicago, that probably didn't help either.

You might want to change out the trans mounts while your there as well($19 a piece). Why? It leaves the trans unsupported at a different level then was engineered and can pre-maturely wear out the trans imput seal.
As far as motor mounts, it probably does not help that the ones for these cars are not terribly robust to begin with.

a long time ago to an APR snub. After changing all the moounts I recentered the snub in the basket to make sure everything was/is lined up. SO much better.

Definitely look into the tranny mounts as well. The only way I know to really tell if the tranny mounts are bad is, you will have hesitation when taking off from a standstill or hesitation when accelerating sort of like if your clutch wasn't fully engaging.

do a search. . . If you really can't find anything, let me know and I will write out the instructions here on AW so we have it for the 2.8.

Even the description in the manual is bad. Basically , all I use the manual for is torque specs and recommended factory tool lists. Its still worth the $ though. Compared to the Porsche manuals , they are dirt cheap and will save alot of people from very simple disasters.
There are alot of tech articles here on the board. You might want to search through the B5 A4 board and Tech section.
