Here is a picture of the engine compartment, and then a picture of the EvoMS air intake. The instructions tell you to leave the stock vent duct to airbox intake tube in place to funnel air to the cone filter. I've decided to follow those recommendations, but early next spring I'd like to do some experimentation with replacing it with some heat shielding material instead, a la djnelsen. I installed the intake about a month and a half ago, but I'll reiterate that it was simple. More on the intake at a later time.

Also, if you look at the first picture, and at the hood latch, you can see the blue Unorthodox Racing power steering pulley. When I take the radiator support panel off again, probably sometime in January or February, I'll take a picture of all three pulleys. More on the pulleys at a later time.

Without further ado, the pictures!

And the intake itself:

I have the same intake BTW and I bought some self-adhesive heat shielding and added it to the metal heat shield as an extra barrier to the engine heat.

The stuff I got is about 1/8" thick.

I like the intake a lot. Gains? Who knows. Sounds good at WOT though!

But I definitely plan on doing so. I have easy access to the 1/8" heat shielding material you've used, but I know that other people (i.e. djnelsen) have used a more robust and thick material. I might try to use that; I know of a stereo component company that produces something like it, I believe it is called Thermotec.

Anyhow, that's something for this spring. I'll post more pictures when I get it done.

And I love the intake. I think there are gains to be had, but of course, I don't have any physical proof of that. However, I also love the sound!

You should buy a closed intake system.. I've had that intake for a year or so.. nothing great, heat soak.. BMC make a CF airbox that fits our cars.. I'm fitting one after the new year.

I went with an Akimoto funnel ram IV filter, and the intake is much better now. I was getting some codes using the old filter. That blue one is sitting on my desk now, maybe I'll stick it in my miata for ****s and giggles.
