Hey Guys,

Had a wierd situation the other day.

My CEL light came on yesterday (never has before in the year I have owned my 1998 A4 Avant) and then today no CEL light all day.

What's up with an intermittent CEL? Any thoughts?

BTW - Just had VC gaskets, fuel filter and spark plugs replaced FWIW. Also, I have no access to a VAG to pull codes.

Thanks.

Now it does it less frequently. As in, the CEL will be on for a few weeks, then will turn off for a few weeks. I'm not sure what codes I'm running as I haven't checked with a VAG. I've replaced all the things you mentioned as will, but nothing has changed. This has been going on for the better part of the last four years, so I don't think there are any serious consequences...if your problem is the same as mine, that is.

Fortunately, the car was still under Audi Assured when that was going on.

Now, my CEL will come on and go off again b/c of a bad catalyst. The Bank 2 cat is "below required efficiency" or some such crap.

Fortunately, I *just* got smogged, so won't have to worry about a new cat for a while.

Could just be gas cap. I used to get them alot with platnium plugs, hopefully they didn't them. I find they foul and mis-fire easily. Find someone with a Vag-Com.
I went back to 4 prong NGK coppers(better mpg)and no CEL's.
