One question I had when I looked at the G1 setup is this:
I have an aftermarket intake, with the traditional setup where the stock airbox is removed and replaced with a tube + cone filter that sits where the stock airbox used to be.
In the pictures of the G1, it looks to be sitting in the space allocated to the stock airbox. Does this mean I will have to remove my aftermarket intake if I purchase a G1?

Here's view from the top, where the stock airbox usually sits.

Here's a view from inside the wheel well with the liner removed that shows how the MAF and cone is attached to the s/c intake.

If it looks like there isn't any space left, it's not an optical illusion. There is NO space left.

What about the G2? I haven't seen anything in those pictures which would seem to interfere with the placement of the aftermarket intake; in fact, isn't the G2 designed to function with the stock airbox? I think I've even seen someone post saying that they were choosing to purchase an aftermarket intake with their G2.
Of course then I wouldn't have the intercooling options you've brought into the spotlight, and I wouldn't have that cool G1 sound.

I've heard everything on the G1 from "too loud" to that it is cool because it sounds like an "x-wing". I've heard everything on the G2 from that it sounds "like a ferrari" to that it doesn't make any discernible noise at all. Your personal take?

On the G2 the supercharger is located after the tb so when the tb is closed it operates in close to vacuum. This effectively kills most of the noise.
On the G1 the supercharger is located before the tb so it always has air circulating through it, so it has an audiable whine even when the tb is closed.
So the bottom line is that at WOT G2 vs. G1 noise level is very close, however at idle or part throttle cruising the G1 will be louder.
I have used substential amounts of Dynamat on the inside of the hood, the passenger fender and the firewall behing the s/c. The effect is significant reduction of the most annoying, high frequency noise. Don't get me wrong, it can still be loud at times, but it's down to the point that it doesn't bother and annoy me anymore.

Partially because most people don't spend all day @WOT. Think of the noise most trasmissions make in reverse, now imagine driving in reverse at 50MPH and you'll get some idea what it sounds like ;)
For me it was the constant whine when just driving around town that got to be annoying. As I said, the dynomat took care of that quite well. The noise is now less harsh, more muted, much easier to take for a long period of time.

I just don't want to be irritated. As a law student and soon lawyer, there are obviously some situations where I don't want to sound like umm...an X-Wing.

I think my current setup works quite well this way. The amount of noise is directly related to RPMs. The nice thing about the setup is that it has gobs more low end torque which buys flexibility. When I want to cruise quietly I can go into higher gear, drop to 1000-1500 RPM and still have plenty of torque to keep up with traffic. When I want to play, I can go to a lower gear, get the RPMs around 3K and turn heads B)
It's all good.

As usual, my choice of G1 or G2 depends mainly on availability and pricing. :)
