View Full Version : Chid Mod on 98 A6 2.8. Is it worth? kevin98 11-03-2004, 11:47 AM considering to buy GIAC Chips for my 98 Audi. It is hitting to 120.000 miles. Can you share any useful info if you could get? I love to do some mod on 2.8 engine if vag can do something. Thanks, Kevin legalizecannabis 11-03-2004, 12:48 PM you change the last digit in your engine code from a 1 to a 2. This is the chassis code number and 1 is for A4, 2 is for A6. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong. Schumiusedtowin 11-03-2004, 12:57 PM poolemac (sold) 11-03-2004, 03:35 PM So you've got us all riled up, everyone wants to know how to trick the ECU into thinking our 30v 2.8s are in an A6. Do you have any way to look up the soft code for this? Or point us in the right direction towards finding it? thanks a bunch, Andrew bobross213 11-03-2004, 03:41 PM poolemac (sold) 11-03-2004, 04:45 PM Chimpzilla 11-03-2004, 06:41 PM 4Rings::G2 boosted:: 11-04-2004, 06:00 AM The reason the A6 has more HP with the same engine is because it is running a less restrictive true dual exhaust. Changing your ECU to A6 mode will not gain you any power, it is pure placebo effect. EngrishisaFrickinG 11-04-2004, 07:59 AM A4X4 11-04-2004, 08:43 AM BHase 11-04-2004, 09:52 AM Love the chip. Disagree with many that it isn't worth it due to "minimal gains"; $300 well spent (GIAC). Ben bobross213 11-04-2004, 11:53 AM i cant find the post right now but someone did a baseline dyno and then a dyno after the mod and it showed a slight increase in horsepower and tourqe EngrishisaFrickinG 11-04-2004, 12:33 PM I really don't think that is the case. Esp considering the same dyno can come out with different results on the same car. give it a shot, see what happens. bobross213 11-04-2004, 02:29 PM and if it makes me feel like its faster im gunna do it even if its a myth EngrishisaFrickinG 11-04-2004, 03:37 PM I was just under the impression that the true dual is what gave the a6 the extra juice. There has to be something besides a s/c, chip, Stg3 MAF, exhaust to make this car a bit quicker (not that I'm complaining, I love my 2.8). 4Rings::G2 boosted:: 11-04-2004, 04:31 PM Also don't forget the underdrive pulleys bobross213 11-04-2004, 05:53 PM Kris Hansen 11-05-2004, 09:08 AM but the top end was very flat compared to the A4 setting. Needless to say, I went back to teh stock setting. I have since coded my A6 to the A4 coding. The biggest differences are timing, and when in the RPM band the intake manifold changeover happens. In the A6, it happenes at 3k, on the A4, 4k. Heat-shielding on the airbox, intake runner and MAF helps too. I have Beru Ultras and a K&N. German Syntec too. I have to say the Auto-Rx.com treatments added some punch by freeing up ringpacks. shwndh 11-20-2004, 03:15 PM it just improves what you already have. It gets rid of the annoying flat spot (sluggishness) when you're trying to take off from the ligh. Gmann 11-28-2004, 12:58 PM Is the pes a cold air intake? or just short ram air? |
