Friday morning my 2000 TT (108K miles) popped when I started the engine (after driving it about 20 minutes then turning it off for a 5 minute errand). Then the engine started rumbling around like it lost an engine mount, it started throttling up and down, the brake pedal locked and the check engine light came on. I rolled it down the street to a service station where it sat all day and I had it towed home that night. I'm new to the area and don't know of a mechanic and don't have a lot of $ to fork out on a major repair.

Does anyone have a suggestion, know of a mechanic near Mt. Dora, FL or know what sort of problem this sounds like? Would appreciate any advice.

What hose popped off? I looked under the hood and nothing seemed out of the ordinary but I didn't take any of the covers off.

I'm new to all this; what's the smic? I guess I need to take the engine covers off to see down in there, right? Is this something I could fix myself?

Sounds like a mass air flow sensor to me.
