ok, i have a 1999 audi a4 1.8t frontwheel with the 91 octance apr chip and was wanting to get my car to give off the psshhh sound when the air is released. i was going to get the audi tt diverter and custom my box intake that already has a h&n intake in it. but i was told that would not allow my car to give the (blow off valve sound like mitsubishis) and i was wanting something similar to that sound. i was told that a cone cold air intake would kinda give me that sound, but i do not want to take the chance of drowing out my engine with the cold air intake, because this is my everyday drive car and dont want to take a chance of going through a puddle and killing my engine. i was thinking about getting a turbo xs diverter valve or a bailey motor sport diverter valve and trying to customize my air intake with a cone but have it take the air from the top of my grille, rather than the bottom. do you think that this would give me the PSSHHHH!!! sound, if not, what would you guys recommend i get and do to my car. ohh and im happy with the horsepower i have now and dont mind giving up some horsepower in order to get that sound. thanks in advance. any info with sites to go to would help. thanks again

Without looking like an idiot by putting a BOV mod to replace the DV I reccommend getting a CAI, same great sound, same great price, but you get horsepower and torque instead of losing it with the BOV...

i already owned a mitsubishi eclipse, and a integra type r and a prelude vtec and i like my audi out of all of them. but i have never owned a turbo and do not know much when it comes to turbos. so sorry for my ignorance when it comes to not knowing much on the 1.8t. i have been trying to read as much as i can, but thought i would just ask and see what kind of response i get.

well see, i was about to get the CAI, but after seeing my brothers engine get ruined from a flooding the engine from sucking the water up from the CAI, i dont think i want to go that route and i was not thinking about getting a BOV, just comparing it to the sound i want. i was thinking about getting the bailey motor sports, turbo xs, or the forge diverter and custom making a cone intake that sucks in air from the top of my grill, not the bottome like cold air where my car could flood. i was just wondering if that would give me the blow off sound (psshhhh) or if i should take another route. thanks in advance. any help is appreciated

Just be warned that these and all other hybrid & BOV's will cause the car to go rich right after it dumps the air.

There is almost no need to worry with a turbo engine and waterlock. I had these concerns too when I first thought about a CAI but unles you totally immerse the filter in water the back pressure won't allow you to suck in enough to cause any issues

ok, see i guess i was just worried after seeing 10 cars kill their engine at waterfest this year. but it was also down pooring. ok, now the question is, what CAI would you recommend, my buddy said to get a injen, but those are crazy $.

Well, I went with the GHL. I don't have the website, but in a comparison between all the CAIs, and for the price, you can't beat it. The only draw back, if you consider it a drawback is that it is a hard plastic, not the shiney aluminum of most....

what kind of cold air intakes are made for my car? i was looking at an injen. i saw a neuspeed one for 170, but i dont know if it was a cold air intake or just air intake.

So it gets the same effect from a BOV as the A4 does.

all i needed to do is what i asked. i did it and i got the sound i want and the hp. all it took was a xs diverter and a cone air intake with some of my rigging.
