View Full Version : Putting in a new Turbo. How do you prime it with oil so it doesn't burn up on startup??? rd350 06-03-2005, 04:33 PM pac1085 06-03-2005, 06:23 PM loxx0050 06-03-2005, 07:59 PM this will pump oil into the turbo while not letting the engine fire/start up, that is what is recommended from the install instructions on the AWE KO4 kit before you run the engine for the first time after installing the turbo kit. Aarononymous 06-04-2005, 03:16 PM It would be a little easier to access. loxx0050 06-05-2005, 10:45 AM when I did my KO4 install, I was running a stock ECU to be able to drive my car while I got my chipped ECU upgraded to the KO4 program. So I had to swap the ECU's anyways. Otherwise, another suggestion by the mechanic that installed my KO4 kit is to pull one spark plug and crank the engine, that'll do the same thing prime the turbo with oil and not fire up the engine. Damocles 06-05-2005, 04:25 PM As long as the turbo had lube in it from the factory, then just start the motor and let it idle like you should after changing the oil. The turbo doesn't spin much at idle. You want to prime new motors unless you were generous with the assembly lube, but I have never heard of priming a new turbo. I never did it, and I have never seen anyone else do it. Turbos are not bathed in oil, it all runs out of the turbo when the engine is off anyway.
