I have a '03 A4 1.8t and two weeks ago the oil image appeared on the message center and the message stated to turn off the engine and check the oil pressure. I checked it and the oil level was fine. I called the dealer and they told me to bring the car in. By the time I arrived at the dealer, something happened with the engine components and it ended up sounding like I was driving a diesel engine.

The dealer informed me I would need a new engine and it was covered under warranty and also they have been having problems with the 1.8t with oil pressure and damaging the engine. They mentioned about a "silent recall" of the 1.8t. Anyone else have this same experience?

Which can cause a problem with the oil pump and oil pick up.

silent recall is correct, if you call the dealer they will never mention it.... but its true! I had the same problem on mine, didnt know about it took it to a local shop and spent 1000 to fix it...mine was a clogged oil screen which caused the oil pump to burn out, thus no oil pressure in the top end of the engine!
