Alot of the lines in my v8 project are now braided but I want to put some type of heat shrink on them to make them last longer.

They make a few different types of heat shrinks. The one im considering using has a heat rating of 230 degree temps. This is just a convering for the braided lines. DO I have to use Something that is rated for 500 degrees? I noticed other company put heat shrink on they're lines too but it looks like some use ptfe and some use PVC? There is no way that the radiant heat from the brakes will melt this covering right?

I'm thinking of using Polyolefin because the stuff comes in different shrink ratios and I need at least 3 to 1 to clear the fittings. The PTFE heat shrink ratio is too small to fit over the premade goodridge lines. Also I need it to shrink onto the braided lines and fit into the silicone grommets that I using so i can follow the stock line placement.

anyone?

Thanks
Josh

..so presumably it can get there under extreme use.

I dont like braided lines. Do you really feel they help? My porsche, with regular lines has perfect brakes. I've driven audis with braided lines that felt like sponge cake. very pretty sponge cake.

I agree that braided lines shouldn't be needed on a street car, but as you said, Audi brakes are notoriously soft. Since my pedal would go to the floor before activating ABS, anything that would firm up the pedal was appreciated.

Master cylinder? ABS? ABS bleed?

fuel, power steering, brakes, oil etc. V8 coupe project of mine. Life is just easier now, and i never have to worry about "NLA" parts. I don't mind trying things out. I'm going to end up doing it anyways and just keep an eye on things. It ok, cause that's been the case with 95% of the rest of the stuff i've had to do with this car. I've been told that heat shrink is vulcanized anyways so it shouldn't goop over all over the place if it does melt.
