Is this a pad issue, or is it time for new brakes all together?

brakes squeak and squeal. Sometimes it's pads vibrating, sometimes it's dirt. Rarely, it is metal on metal. That's bad.

So there's no use asking for our opinion - we cant see the brakes. You need to remove the wheels, support the car on a lift or stands, and inspect the rotors and inner and outer pads ( all 3, inner and out wear differently) to see if in addition to any noise, they are wearing.

My opinion is that if you have to ask this question, you need to get it to a mechanic or learn more about bakes. There's nothing audi specific about brakes. They are really very simple.

And noise is only rarely an indicator of wear or trouble. People just dont like it.

UNLESS it is cause by metal on metal, which should be easy to see, and means they were worn out long ago.
