He's on his 4th set I belive, his warranty just ran out so the next set he'll have to pay for himself!
He doesn't drive the car super hard, but he's paranoid to the point where he "pre brakes" to warm the brakes up slowly before braking hard when exiting the freeway!
The dealer mech. told him it was a common problem with his car.
I looked into an upgrade like Stoptech but they start at around $1,500!!
Any other alternatives????

They helped me for a while in my first 00 S4. Much cheaper than a big brake kit.

... Is it a problem with pad deposits? The latter can feel just as bad as any warped rotor. Those slight deposits visible at ~6:30 felt terrible until they wore away.

I used to wash my wheels when they were hot, I always brake hard, I really hit those suckers. For some odd reason my pads lasted 50k miles though.

But I digress....toward the end of pad life I got a LOT of vibration when braking hard. It would come and go, so I concluded it was pad deposits. I went out late one night, did a bunch of hard stops from 120 or so, and they were smooth as glass the next day. Try it.

When I first bought my '00 A6 4.2, it had terrible brake noise and vibration. I was going to replace the pads/rotors until I heard about the pad deposits. After some bedding runs and everyday driving, the vibration is almost unnoticeable.

From reading these forums you'd think that rotors are warping all the time. Not true! Most of the time it's uneven depositon of the friction material.

Check out the StopTech website, they have good info on the myth of warped rotors.
