Guys are always posting about replacing their rotors every other time they replace pads, or whenever they change underwear, whichever comes first.

Maybe I'm a a more conservative driver, but I've got a '00 A6 2.8Q Tip with about 72k miles on it and it's got the original rotors on it. I've had the rotors inspected and measured, and done it myself with a micrometer and they're fine. I've been a "car nut" since the late 60's and have never heard of replacing rotors as frequently as I hear about on this board.

What's up with the frequent rotor replacement?

Some of us prefer better brakes than the OEM's can provide. Especilly if you do more than just "normal-everyday" driving. ;o)

No, The car I described is my daily driver, no extreme driving. I have an A4 for track use, and I've replaced the rotors on that one.

The feeling I get from some of the posts is that people are replacing rotors on daily drivers. Am I wrong? Are they all tracking their cars?

or they're bad drivers that leave their foot on the brake after a long hard stop or after dragging the brakes all the way down some big hill.
