Hi guys--I have a bone-stock b6 1.8 a4 CVT that I'd like lowered a bit.

I don't want to sacrifice too much of the ride I currently have w/the stock suspension. can/should I:

1)just replace the springs (eibach? koni?...others?)
2)do the springs and shocks
3)go coilovers

I've heard discussions back and forth saying that you shouldn't just do 1) b/c it messes up the shocks I already have. comments?

Thanks in advance, everyone.

If ride comfort is an important factor, go with Koni shocks, with Eibach springs (or Neuspeed Sport if you want a little more lowering). Or if you have a little more money to spare, Koni or Vogtland coilovers.

1) Don't do springs only. Although the car will be lower, the stock shocks won't handle the springs well, and the ride quality will suck.

2) Spring and shock packages are vast. Since you are worried about ride quality, I'd consider an Eibach package (Pro-System) or KONI shock based package vs. an H&R setup or Bilstein based package. The former will be more compliant, the latter more sporty.

3) Coilovers are nice cause you can decide how low or high to set your car (within a range). Many spring shock (#2) packages are lower then people want, so they actually get coilover to raise the car from the spring/shock level. Again, go Eibach or KONI based, not Bilstein or H&R based for greater compliance and comfort.

For the money, the Eibach Pro-System (less then 1K) is a fantastic performing kit. I think it handles better then the KONI based stuff, and has similar ride quality levels.
