Chunks of compact snow and ice that fall off trunks and are too high to straddle... I dodge then when I can, but unfortunately, I've hit a few recently. They aren't high enough to actually hit the front of the car (bumper), but rather the belly pan and whatever else they come in contact with behind that. As far as I can tell, the only actual damage so far is a rip in the belly pan (the aft portion where there are two thin stips left and right of center).
Is there anything else I can check for visually to make sure I haven't f'd something up under the car?

At my 55,000 mile service, my indy shop let me know that I only had 2 servicable fasteners left actually holding my belly pan on. The rest were missing or damaged to the point that they weren't doing anything.
Some were damaged by hitting the same ice chunks you mentioned. Some, I suspect, were simply not properly reinstalled during the many services I've had up until that point.
In any event, you don't want your belly pan getting ripped off while you're driving.
That could do more damage than the occassional random ice chunk.

happened the other day. Must have hit some ice or high enough snow that it pushed the belly pan back enough so the front was hitting the ground and acted as a plow to shove snow underneath.
I fastened the pan again and get to my mechanic's shop to replace it since the thread hole was ripped...it must have fell off again and the highway took a bite of it!
