Per the owner's manual, Brake fluid MUST be changed every 2 years or 30k/mi. What is the story behind this? I have experienced this requirment with American (chevy/pontiac,etc.).

Thanks!

Brake Fluid is quite temperamental due to the fact it absorbs mositure, and breaks down with heat and time. Cars with advanced braking systems are far more temperamental to the fluids being used. Mositure that is absorbed into the fluid can also cause rust... which can be quite expensive to fix, and lead to brake failures

If you track the car, it's even more critical to maintain your fluid and lines. Standard brake fluid will break down very quickly with track level heat, and will cause poor performance, brake fade, or worse.

Thanks for the advice. My car is not expected to the hit the track, but it appears it can lead to more problems if its not replaced. Unless someone tells me different, I will have our local dealer replace. Thanks!
