2.0T Manual

Whenever I shut off my engine I hear a popping noise that is either coming from the engine or the exhaust. It almost sounds like a sputter. The noise starts as soon as the engine stops and the time between pops increases until there is no more popping (about 10-15 seconds total). If I turn the music down all the way with the engine running and in neutral I think I can hear the poping noise happen anywhere from 5-15 seconds appart.

I am not sure if this is a problem or not but i just started noticing it a few months ago.

Anyone have the same experience or ideas as to what could be causing it?

If it is, that's the metal cooling down.

I would say that the noise from metal cooling down is more like a ticking noise. I'm pretty familiar with sound of exhaust and metal cooling and I don't think that is what I'm hearing.

It almost sounds like something in the engine is still moving and causing air to come out of the exhaust?

Any ideas?

It turns out that the problem was in the fuel tank. there was exessive pressure build up in the tank and it required the filter to be replaced and the lines re-ran to correct it. All covered under MFG warranty.
