i'm out of the country, my fiance emailed me this photos

my sister was borrowing the a4 while i was away and got a flat on the freeway. after removing the tire, she saw the the wheel well lining had come loose, rubbing against the tire eventually making it go kaboom

silly her put the spare on and continued to drive the car home and now the spare is ruined as well....should have attempted to remove the liner or called a tow trunk....chicks. now i have 2 ruined michellin ps2

anyways, can anyone help me identify the lining since all i can go by is the photo? any idea how this could have happened? did my sister run over something but is not tell me (my only explanantion)?

trying to decide if i should have the car brought to the dealership and try to claim the whole thing on warranty (including the blown out tire) or just take it to my mechanic and have him put the liner back in place.

help appreciated! thanks from taiwan

Perhaps the blown-flat tire caused the liner to come loose?

at a left turn lane with a center island on the left. She made the U Turn and clipped the center and blew the tire. She PANICS drives it home 10 miles stops the car in the middle of the street in front of the house and runs in the house paniking.

it took me weeks to realize that it was the source of the annoying rattle I was hearing (sounded like coming from behind glove box). Possibly these things are prone to coming loose. In my case, two of the "plugs" had popped out.
