2005.5 A4 2.0T with DTM front (resistors, not foglights)
My brother got his car back from the body/paint shop to get a scratch on his quarter panel taken care of. Drove home fine (maybe 5 mins) then he went out on a date. Drove there and home no problems(15 mins each way.)
About a half hour after he got home my mom went in the garage and called us in. The garage was smokey, not crazy but you could def see the haze in the air, and it smelled like burning plastic or burning something. We spend a while looking around and couldnt figure out where it was coming from. So we closed the garage door and waited another half hour to see if it came back. After half hour, not really worse or same level of smell and smoke, but it was still there.
Now the real problem, my brother gets up to go to work today and his car wont start. Turns over, we hear the clicking of the starter, but it wont turn over. I stick my head in the engine bay and I smell the burning plastic smell.
I beleive I narrowed it down to coilpack #2. Stinks when I put my nose up to #2 and not the others.
Any ideas? Has a coilpack melted or burned out on anyone before? Ive had them go on my B5 and they just stopped working, car would turn over but you would know it was only running on 3 cylinders. His wont even turn over. Anyway to check without going and buying a fresh one to swap out?
