My father-in-law just noticed all the carbon build-up on my exhaust tips on my B7. Has anyone else noticed an excess amount of build-up after being chipped? Does this mean my car is running too rich? I have noticed any issues while driving the car.

I'm going to clean off/in the exhaust tips and see if the build-up comes back. Maybe this was just a new car break-in thing?

I have noticed many B7 2.0T's with excessive carbon build-up (at least that's what it looks like) on the dual exhaust tips - mine included. I believe it happens even when not chipped (mine). It is probably related to the direct injection FSI engine in B7's. Tgr_Clw's 1.8 is not FSI. Anyway my 2 cents.

The first time you use it may take a little patience, depending on how long the carbon has been baking on, but it will come off.

Once you get the baked on layers off, just a quick touch up with the wadding after washing the car will have them looking better than new forever.

I've been using it for 2 years and it's terrific.

It also works well on the aluminum trim to clean up the clouding and water spots that develop.

then the pictures that people have been posting. In addition, my father in law has a PT-Cruiser that has a turbo, and he doesn't have ANY carbon build-up. With mine, you can wipe your finger on the exhaust tip and it will rub off.

It sounds like, in general, a lot of people are having thing. Like I said, I'm going to clean it off and then check it out after a bit. I'm wondering how much of this is the break-in process, and how much is the break-in of the new chip as well?

Regardless, thanks to all who posted, at least it makes me feel like it is a little more usual.
