Being a first time owner of a B7, I just noticed a pretty big (9" or so long) crack on the windshield yesterday. The car was parked over the whole weekend and I certainly hadnt noticed it before. It's started at the Pillar area and has traveled inwards, making me believe that stones, impacts etc had nothing to do with it -- probably temperature diffs or plain old sucky glass....

Is this something that warranty would cover? AoA mentions Glass breakage is NOT covered under warranty except for quality of material or workmanship defects. The car has been with me for more than a year (18K miles) -- so was wondering if there's still a warranty situation here?

If not, any suggesstions for either repair or replacement? Any good dealers or places in the Chicagoland area that could take care of this?

I have both the light and rain sensor in the mirror and thats also giving me nightmares.

Any suggesstions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much.

If they say no, find a glass shop that sells and installs PPG glass and have them do it. My A4's windshield ran me $267 installed at a PPG shop.

Most likely they will claim it's a rock chip or some sort of road debris damage.

You can always try and be pleasantly surprised if they replace it for you. Otherwise, your comprehensive coverage on your auto insurance should cover the new windshield.

I just had mine replaced a couple of weeks ago - they used Audi factory glass and it looks great. It's amazing what a difference a new windshield makes.

Good luck!

Just to get a ballpark idea and if you dont mind, John, what did it cost you to get the windshield replaced?

Also, any suggesstions on which shop to approach? Is the dealer the best option given the rain and light sensors?

Thanks much for your feedback.

In the past it has shown the cost of the windshield on the receipt but it didn't this time. My out of pocket cost was $100 - my comprehensive deductable. Right after replacing the windshield I changed my comprehensive so I have zero deductable and it only increased my premium about $20 a year. Had I known that I would have had zero deductable from the start (and no out of pocket cost).

If you do an insurance claim make sure you specify OEM glass so you don't get some other cheap windshield. You want factory glass.
