There have been some really nice looking Stainless Steel exhaust systems for sale on AudiWorld lately. Many of them are attractively priced and very tempting, but alas, I am saving my $$$ for a few non-automotive toys. Besides, I'm not sure if I want to make my 2.0t any louder than it already is.
So I got to thinking, the stock system is Stainless. Maybe I could shine it up a bit. There have been a lot of repaving projects lately in town, so the first step for me was to remove all the tar and crud from the mufflers and tips. I used a little Tarminator and a few paper towels and the crud came right off.
Here's one side, with the crud removed. As you can see, the factory welding left a lot of discoloration and slag.

I used some polish I picked up at the Auto store and was surprised at how easily the discoloration came off. I only spent a few minutes on each muffler and tip and it made a big difference.

Here's both sides from a distance.

This is the polish I used. I never heard of it before, but it did a great job. It also removed the soot from the tips quickly.

Anyway, not bad for $5 and 15-minutes of work. :-)
