View Full Version : Questions about my new 2007 A4 3.2 JohnMclean 09-09-2006, 08:54 PM Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place. I'd like to ask some questions about my new 2007 Audi A4 3.2. Is this the right forum? LAS 09-09-2006, 09:08 PM JohnMclean 09-09-2006, 09:23 PM Thanks for the quick reply. Here are my questions: 1. How do I access the GALA settings on my BOSE AudioPilot system? 2. Is there a "Max on" volume setting for the BOSE system? My old 2004 A4 1.8T used to have it. 3. Is there a way to default the heads-up display to show driving details (i.e. KM's to empty) instead of the Nav screen? 4. When storing MP3's in subfolders on an SD memory card, does it make sense that I can't exit the subfolder using the large dial-wheel on the stereo? I can scroll between subfolders when using the Steering wheel controls though. 5. Has anyone else had a problem assigning a "name" to a phone number that is synched through bluetooth? Said differently, I can't the get arrow (i.e. "-->") indicator to appear next to a phone book entry on the heads-up display - apparently, the arrow should appear when a name is assigned to a number so that i can voice-dial using the name instead of calling out the phone numbers. Thanks and sorry for all the questions. John LAS 09-10-2006, 02:45 AM Silver Stealth 09-10-2006, 07:05 AM 1. The GALA settings are accessed under the SOUND submenu (upper right quandrant button around main MMI dial. I believe it is labeled DSP Bose. Once selected, you should have 5 GALA levels to choose from 2. I have not been able to discover a "max-on" volume setting for this unit. I too would like this feature. The RNS-E unit does, however, "remember" the current volume setting and returns to it if you leave that function and then come back. As a result, I have learned to lower the volume before switching functions so I'm not blasted by the radio or MP3's the next time I access them. 3. You can toggle the Driver Information Display functions by pushing the reset button on the bottom of the wiper stalk. This will allow you to cycle through the 2 trip computers as well as the NAV screen/compass. 4. The large RETURN button below the main MMI dial allows you to return to higher level subfolder menus. I organize my MP3 files by ARTIST --> ALBUM --> SONG, so I just hit RETURN a couple of times to navigate from a song on one artist's album to then select a different artist. (Hope that makes sense) 5. Unfortunately, I don't have the Bluetooth module. I've been thinking of adding it but haven't decided if it is worth $400 dollars to me. I would check your RNS-E owners manual. I know that they cover this topic under TELEPHONE functions. Hope this helps.... DeMOROlized 09-10-2006, 07:32 AM Don't know if they fixed this in the 07 manual, but the info is wrong in the 06 manual. If you stay "store" instead of "store name" when trying to save a name tag, it'll work. JohnMclean 09-10-2006, 08:30 AM Great Answers... thanks so much. 1. After reading pretty much EVERY line of the "sounds system" section of the MMI manual last night, I stumbled across a "Tip" that states that if you have The Nav+ AND the BOSE system, there is no more GALA menu. Instead the car digitally analyses the sounds in the car (using an internal microphone) and adjust the volume accordingly... I'm not sure how much I like that but whata my gonna do? 2. I've got a call into my dealer to find out where the "Max on" setting is. That was one of my favorite "frill" features from my 2004 A4. I'd hate to loose it. 3. I was hoping there was a way to default the heads-up to stay on the "driver info" menu instead of always starting with the "nav" menu. I'm sure I'll get used to switching it when starting the car if I can't change the default behavior. 4. That's EXACTLY what I needed to know. I can't wait to try that. Thanks. BTW, I arrange my mp3's the same way you do - Don't you just LOVE the SD Card option??! 5. I almost didn't get the Bluetooth option because I was totally happy with my Motorola headset, but having used the Audi Bluetooth for a week now, I really like it. Keep in mind that unlike a headset, you can't turn it off - well not easily anyway - so it will drain your phone battery much quicker since it's always synched when you're in the car. Thanks again for all the helpful info. JohnMclean 09-10-2006, 08:33 AM I definately have to try that!! From what I recall, the manual for the '07 still says "Store name". I'll try just using "Store" to see what happens. Thanks Paul. Silver Stealth 09-10-2006, 08:56 AM I saw that reference in the manual about Audiopilot overriding GALA in the Bose unit, but I played around with the GALA settings anyway. I did find a noticeable difference in the way the volume level adjusted on 4 and 5, especially in the city between stoplights. Also, unless you always start with the NAV function when you power on the unit, the Driver Information Display should instead display the trip computer, at least mine does. If I remember correctly, you may have to disable the compass function on the RNS-E unit. This may solve your problem. I did because of the compass in the rear view mirror anyway. Try it and see if it makes a difference. JohnMclean 09-10-2006, 09:58 AM I'm totally going to try all the stuff you're suggesting. Thanks very much (again) for all the help. I'll report back after I give these tips a try. JohnMclean 09-10-2006, 10:40 AM So... you guys are awesome. Of the original 5 questions I posed (less than 24 hours ago I might add), only 2 of them remain unsolved. 1. GALA: I still can't find this menu on my system. I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but my software (s/w) version is 0110 and my Hardware (h/w) version is H72. I think my s/w h/w might be the cause of the confusion because my "sound" sub-menu is in the lower right quadrant of my screen, not the upper right as suggested by SilverStealth. Location of the sub-menu aside, I still couldn't find the GALA option after following SilverStealth's instructions. 2. Max-on Volume: I'm still waiting to hear back from the dealer about this - or someone who might have figured out how to access it, assuming it's comes with the 2007 A4 BOSE systems. 3. NAV heads-up menu: As suggested, disabling the "compass" solved the problem. Great tip. 4. Moving between MP3 folders: Using the "return" button totally did the trick - AWESOME tip, this makes me very happy! 5. Associating names with phone numbers synched via Bluetooth: This tip was brilliant. Not sure how the heck it was discovered, but there does indeed appear to still be a typo in the A4 2007 manual. Associating a name with a number isn't done by using the "store name" command, it's done using just the word "store" (assuming the entry in question is currently selected in the heads-up display). I've said it a bunch already, but you guys ROCK! Thanks for all the help. I'll definitely keep you all posted should I get answers to the 2 outstanding questions (i.e. items 1 and 2 above). DeMOROlized 09-10-2006, 02:00 PM #1) Bose AudioPilot replaces GALA i.e. if you have Bose you don't have GALA. My previous B6 with Bose doesn't have the GALA option. This is true whether you have Nav+ or just Symphony II. #2) There isn't a max-on setting for Nav+. Bose makes no difference here. #5) I discovered that myself when I was trying to figure out how to save name tags. |
