I've heard horror stories about the old Audi Navigation system. The Audi salesman actually talked me out of buying it in my 2002 A4. So I bought a Magellan Roadmate 700, which suction cups to my windshield and works great. I'd love to buy my next car with built-in navigation, but won't bother with it if it's still junk. Comments from those of you who have it? Thanks!

it only had the directions....

now the nav + is awesome... (and dvd based, not cd based like the 02)

and of course it has the screen

and as well 2 SD card slots to play mp3s

i won't buy a car without navi these days.... only because it looks nicer than the stock head unit

Two versions of the Nav+, the RNS-D (CD based only sold in Europe) and RNS-E sold on B7's in US and B6+ in Europe.

RNS-E has been awarded in many comparisons to be best on market as far as OE is concerned. Email me if you have questions.

I was glad I did
it spices up the interior and is very helpful when you need to find your way around
and those 2 sd card slots don't hurt either
I can't remember the last time I burnt a CD

also for the mp3 player and overall music interface. People say they don't need nav, which may be true, but you listen to music everyday and this is the best way to play mp3's, CD's, use bluetooth, or listen to sat radio. But even the nav interface works great, no other aftermarket nav will also have a mini map w/directions right in the center of your gauge cluster.

Plus features crippled ("along the route" searches). Screw adjustment knob "out" to zoom "in" (go figure?). Works ok if you have a trained input specialist in the passenger seat.
Screen is nice, but they waste half of it with upcoming freeway ramp info.
Most comments on this board are from rookies who haven't used good alternatives before.

Thanks jlow. That's the kind of info I was looking for. I spend a lot of time driving to remote locations, and a good navigation system makes my life SO much easier. Don't care much whether my dash has a color monitor or a couple extra mp3 slots. I need good navigation. I've heard horror stories about Audi Nav in the past. Too bad they can't get it together. Guess I'll stick with my Magellan RoadMate 700 portable unit, which works great!

Sorry to say but it must be user error.

I guess you couldn't handle BMW idrive either then huh? What a joke this is.

while I was in middle of route from Frankfurt to Zurich.

Full screen map is only 3" big too. It's a killer deal.

Scott, I'd be interested in hearing your objective evaulation of Audi Nav+...particularly relative to some of the other navigation systems on the market, such as those produced by Magellan and Garmin. Thanks!

Looking for general information regarding ease of use, accuracy, etc. I currently own a Magellan RoadMate 700 portable GPS unit. I've had it for about three years, and it has worked flawlessly. It gives both visual and voice prompts approximately 2.0 miles, 1.0 miles, 0.5 miles and 0.1 miles before each turn. Provides clear, legible maps. It usually finds the street you're looking for after you've entered the first three or four letters of the streen name. I want to know how the Audi Nav+ stacks up with respect to these type of parameters. I've heard from numerous sources (including my dealer and friends who own Audis with Nav+) that the Audi system is a pain in the neck to use. I would love to have a GPS system permanently installed in my next car (plan to buy within the next couple months), but will continue to use my portable unit if I learn that the Audi system doesn't compare favorable. Thanks!

but I haven't taken the time to search non-indexed 250 page manual to find it. RNS-E does track well and voice prompts are informative. My comments are to what it could do comparative to other nav products. Also, US version has been "de-tuned" versus the European version.

I like the nav+ a lot. But from a GPS performance and accuracy point of view, I can't say I'm terribly impressed, it does a decent job. I also have TomTom5 with a Dell Axim x50v and it navigates and presents info far better. BUT, it's only GPS input and gets no info from the car, so if you're waiting for a light under a bridge or something enjoy the freakout show :)

The (in my mind) reversed up/down input wheel irritates me to no end, looked for an inverse in the settings but no luck.

I have used that as well and reason for me liking RNS-E over that.

First off it offers multiple route options at point of destination. Explains highway miles and normal city routes. This allows you to better plan trip. Shows directional arrows on DIS, on RNS-E as well as map and ability to zoom and remove if wanted. Multiple colors for ease of use. Ability to view thousands of destinations such as parks banks, food, malls etcetera. You can hover cursor over area wait 3 seconds and it tells you what it is such as body of water, town, bank icon or so on. Phonemes are best in industry meaning lady doesn't sound like a computer. Fully integratable with OEM BT, DVD and all that fun stuff.

you said you had the hardware thingy. Not the same as my Dell x50v, with a 3rd party GPS reciever and tomtom5 software solution at all.

The only thing the RNS-E has over the solution above from a gps standpoint is that it is integrated in the car.

I just wanted to tell AudiPrideCT that the Nav+ is good, but it's not great when you compare it to other solutions out there.

Your reply was very helpful. Exactly the type of information I was looking for. Thanks for the objective evaluation!
